Mimbre Abstract Design -- Hand Painted Lentil Bead Set.
This lovely set features hand made porcelain lentil beads that are hand painted with underglazes in a Mimbres Abstract design on both sides. The design on this Neclace is designed to mimic the ancient bowls. Each bead is painted on both sides with the abstract design . There are 5 red beads and 4 white beads. (See additional photos below) These striking beads are separated and accented with hand made black porcelain rounds, and sterling silver round spacers.. It closes with a sterling silver toggle clasp. The earrings are red on one side of the bead white on the other.
From around 200 A.D. to about 1150 A.D. a group of farmers lived along the banks of the Mimbres river in southwestern New Mexico. Near the end of this time around 1000 to 1100 A.D. they began to make the beautiful black and white design pottery which they are known for. This pottery is distinctive in its intricate geometric designs with fine lines and stylized figures of animals, humans and bugs. After about 1150 A.D. their villages were abandoned and no more of their pottery is found.
Size
: The necklace is 20 inches long. Each of the painted lentl beads on the necklace are .75inch diameter. The earrings are 5/8inch in diameter.
