Wooden Shoe Earrings
These earrings feature tiny wooden shoe shaped porcelain charms hand painted in the Quimper (pronounced Kam Pare) style. Quimper is a french country style of majolica ware that has been made in Quimper, France for well over 100 years and is still made to this day.
These little shoes are hand painted in underglazes on the porcelain with traditional Quimper style designs. They are not made using the majolica technique for several reasons. 1. They are porcelain and the glazes become too fluid at porcelain temperatures to maintain the designs. 2. Porcelain is already white unlike the red clay used in the original french wares and therefore does not need the white tin glaze to make it white. 3. Sharper crisper designs result from using the underglazes and with such tiny pieces I feel this is a plus.
Each shoe is approximately 3/4 inch long.
