Owl Effigy Bowl
Item:
BOW-OWL
The original that this Bowl is fashioned after is from the late Woodland period between about 400-1000 AD. The original was found in Florida and is typical of Weeden Island style ceramics.
The Weeden Island Tradition included a variety of well crafted anthropomorphic and zoomorphic vessels. Many of these were of birds. Many of the Weeden Island pieces were also pierced through the vessel wall with decorative shaped hole and they may have been used as lanterns.. The Ceremonial and symbolic expressions of this group provide artistic continuity between the Woodland and Mississippian periods.
This reproduction is made of native clay and traditionally fired in a wood fire. It has been fired repaired and fired twice. In the first firing the face came off. You can see the line under the face where it was repaired. It is fully repaired and not cracked just a difference in color otherwise it is perfectly fine. It is, however, reduced in price from $250 to $175 due to the blemish.
Size:
7in diameter and 3.75 in tall
