Council Fire
Item:
COUNCILFIRE
This effigy is an original interpretation of a Choctaw legend. The legend of how the animals got the fire for the first council fire.
This pot is hand sculpted from hand dug native clay. The body of the birdman and the firewood are painted with a brown color hand dug clay slip. The forked eyes, fire, and various red highlights are painted with a hand mixed hematite paint. The Black painted areas are painted with hand mixed manganese paint. The white areas are hand painted with a white clay slip. The tan colored areas are the natural color of the clay the piece was built from.
