Possum Effigy Water Bottle
Item:
POSSUM
This is a reproduction of a Mississippian Period effigy bottle. The original of this bottle was slightly larger than this reproduction at 10 inches tall. The original was found in the Mississippi Valley.
Size:7.5 inches Tall by 4.5 inches nose to tail 4 inches side to side
Materials and Techniques
:This bottle was entirely hand built from hand dug native clay using the coiling method and hand burninshed with a rock. It was then traditionally fired outdoors in a wood fire which was smothered creating the lovely black color. This native clay often results in a very metallic looking finish when fired in reduction, which is quite evident on this pot especially on the hind legs. I think this is a very appealing finish.
