Incised Caddo Style Pot
Item:
CAD1
This pot is fashioned in the style of the ancient incised pottery of the Caddo Indians of the Mississippian period. The original artifacts were made between about 1000-1700 AD. This pot is made from native clay and traditionally fired in a wood fire which was partially smothered.
During the Mississippian period the Caddo Indians created a large group of interesting shapes and styles of pottery with intricate incised designs. This tradition stretches over roughly a 700 year period. With more intricate designs being seen later in the period.
