Item: RIVER

This pot features a design that is identified as the River of Souls.  The Hand with the eye in the palm according to myth The hand was cut from the guardian of the afterworld by two heros that traveled to the afterlife and returned.  They left the hand in the portal to keep it open so they could return.  The hand corresponds to a constellation of stars.  Across the wrist of the hand are the three stars that are also considered the belt of orion.  According to myth the souls must jump into the portal before it goes below the horizon.  On this pot you can see the river of souls as it exits the back of the hand and goes off into the stars.  The back of the jar is covered a field of stars.
