Mimbres Style Rabbit Miniature Porcelain Pot

This is inspired by a design found on a Mimbres bowl it is done in color rather than just black and white like the original Mimbres bowls.  The design is placed with rabbits chasing each other around the pot.  The blue design at the  top is to designate the sky, the curved triangular green designs are meant to represent the grass, on the original bowl design they were around the edge and were black.  There are green panels in various shades going to the bottom of the pot that are filled with the parallel lines that are common on Mimbres pieces.

From around 200 A.D. to about 1150 A.D. a group of farmers lived along the banks of the Mimbres river in southwestern New Mexico.  Near the end of this time around 1000 to 1100 A.D. they began to make the beautiful black and white design pottery which they are known for. This pottery is distinctive in its intricate geometric designs with fine lines and stylized figures of animals, humans and bugs.  After about 1150 A.D. their villages were abandoned and no more of their pottery is found.

This pot is hand formed from porcelain and hand painted with underglazes, then fired glazed and fired again.  It was fired in an electric kiln.

This pot is approximately 1.25 inches in diameter.
