This Plaque features a hand carved design inspired by an ancient copper repousse sheet that was found in one of the ancient mounds.  The Copper plate dates from the Mississippian period A.D. 1300-1600. 

This Plaque is hand formed from native clay which I dig and process myself. It was sanded smooth and the design was hand carved.  The colors were then added with colored native slips.  The colors are natural except for the black which a mineral pigment was added to the clay.  It was then hand burnished with a rock and fired outdoors in a wood fire.
