This is a traditional design that has been slightly modified.  The ancient pipe this was fashioned after was only a bowl.  I Added the ceramic stem to create a completely ceramic pipe rather than one that would have an attached wooden stem.  Many traditional pipes were made entirely of ceramic so it is still a traditional pipe.  It was completely hand built and then bisque fired in an electric kiln before traditional firing in a wood fire.  Variations in the wood firing atmosphere resulted in a variation of shades of gray to black on this pipe adding to the uniqueness of this pipe.  It comes with a matching ceramic stand as shown in the photo which was also hand built and traditionally fired.
