Panther Platform Pipe
Item:
PANTHER
This Panther Pipe is a platform pipe design. This pipe is a reproduction of a Woodland Period pipe that was found at the Mann site in Posey County Indiana. It is believed that the original pipe was inlaid with stone eyes and in various places on its body. As I was not inlaying this piece I did not put the carved in spaces for the inlays. That and the fact that the origianl artifact was carved from stone are the main differences between this pipe and the original artifact. Numerous styles and designs of platform pipes have been found across many sites in the area. Most feature animal effigies.
This pipe is hand formed from Native Clay which I dig and process myself. The details were carved in and it was hand burnished using a polished stone. It was then fired traditionally outdoors in a wood fire which was smothered with manure creating the rich black color.
Size:
5.75 inches long 1.5 inches tall 1.75 inches wide
