Snake pipe.  This is a traditional snake pipe in the style of the Mississippian period (about 1000-1400AD).  It was hand built from Native Clay and incised.  It was then traditionally fired in a wood fire.  The strange color is a gift of the flame and the result of incomplete reduction or a partial smothering of the fire.
