Mound Builder World View Porcelain Ball
Item:
BALL
This little porcelain ball depects the Mound Builder World View. It was inspired by a drawing and serves to place the various mythical creatures in their places in the world. On one side you can see a hand with an eye or ogee shape in the palm this is said to be the river of souls. On the opposide side of the ball you can see the river again ending with a swirl of heads, some of the souls in the river. The river of souls is the trip made to the great hunting grounds in the sky and is associated with the stars. You can also see the piassa on the lower, or underworld area along with a fish and some horned serpents. In the sky above you can see the flying serpents as well as eagles to each of the four directions spitting lightening. There is a medicine wheel on the very top.
This little ball was all hand built from porcelain. The design was hand painted onto the little ball with underglazes. It was then fired to over 2000 degrees farenheit in an electric kiln. This little ball has a battery operated light inside that will make the ball glow slightly in a dark room. It is a subtle glow and the colors change through the spectrum. If you look closely in the photos you can see some of the areas that are glowing blue and green.
Size:
Approximately 2.25 inches in diameter
